Gboard is showing Google emojis on my Samsung phone. How do I get Gboard to show system emojis?

Seemingly out of nowhere, my Gboard started showing me Google emojis instead of Samsung emojis. I have not changed any settings and a quick look at the Gboard subreddit (www.reddit.com/r/Gboard) shows that others are having the same issue as me.

I have tried installing the beta Gboard, clearing the cache, and reinstalling Gboard. Reddit users have responded that the emojis reverted back to system (Samsung) emojis for about 10 minutes, then Gboard reverts to Google emojis.

The attached image shows the Google emojis in the keyboard, but the correct system emojis in the text entry field in Google Messages.

How do I fix this? I am considering switching keyboards completely if I can't revert this.
